The Checkered House Bridge on Route 2, a two-lane bridge over the Winooski River is next to a 1929 bridge that is now undergoing two years worth of repairs.
The bridge is undergoing a major rehabilitation during 2011 and 2012. Work will include construction of new pavement, replacement of bearings and joints, and steel and concrete repairs. The westbound ramp from Rensselaer to the bridge and the pedestrian walkway on the Albany County portion of the bridge will also be rehabilitated. The bridge will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists throughout construction.
