It All Started with Dad.
It was our father who first showed us the ropes in owning a construction business. As brothers, we (Wally and Jeffrey DiStefano) joined forces and built Harrison and Burrowes (H&B) from the ground up. Day in and day out, the company has been foundational in crafting the gateways that connect our states, our counties and our communities to our neighbors, our friends and our families. For us, building bridges is our connection to our past, our future, our family and to Dad. It is the gateway to home.
In the beginning, we formed and poured concrete and ran the business out of a basement office with a staff of three. We sought out the tough jobs no one else wanted, building a niche and future for the company. We quickly observed that because we aimed to learn, we learned to aim. And if you ask any employee, they will tell you that our most successful bridge was not the most expensive or showcased design, it was the one where we learned we could make a go of this company. Daring to take on challenges proved to be profitable.
Today, H&B boasts over $12 million in equipment holdings and is headquartered in Glenmont, New York. Through a staff over one hundred seasonal and full-time employees, we provide services to both New York and Vermont.
We have built bridges from the Canadian border to Westchester County and as far west as Binghamton, completing more than 100 prime and 50 subcontractor projects. An award-winning firm, we are the bridge constructors of the Walkway over the Hudson, the longest pedestrian bridge in the world.
Over the past thirty years, there has been one constant – our unwavering staff. While we have built bridges, we have also built people. Developing our company has been about strengthening potential in our employees and teaching them to take on challenges with a creative spirit. For every leader we have another two in training, one senior and one junior, in the wings throughout the entire organization.
The goal of H&B has always been to improve our own lives while creating something of value for our communities. Our quality product is in direct relation to our quality employees. At H&B, we spend each day with a dedicated staff of professionals, an extended family of friends, competitors and customers – a direct bridge to what is most important to each of us.
Our lives are measured in these projects. We are lucky to see our life’s accomplishments reflected in magnificent structures, built to stand the test of time.
